The Foundation for the Social and Integral Development of San Martin, in accordance with the Ministerial Act No.136, is located in the southeast area of Quito, in the Barrio Cooperativa de vivienda San Blas no. 2. This urban barrio, like the ones surrounding it, lacks many crucial services. Its population mostly consists of immigrants and indigenous people from other countries as well as from other parts of Ecuador, such as Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Bolivar, Azuay, Loja, and Los Rios. These people come with the hopes of bettering their quality of life, but most of them have a poor academic formation. Some families do not even speak Spanish, while others are in the process of learning the language. Because of this, many children struggle in school and experience discrimination from their peers and professors causing self-esteem issues for many of them. This population lives in precarious situations due to the lack of basic services, such as water or electricity, which is why they are rarely able to help their children in their integral development. Most of these families wouldn’t even send their children to school because they think it would be a waste of time and that they would be more productive working.
